The hardest part about becoming a superhero is actually taking that first leap, that first plunge into the icy waters of nightly patrol. Seriously, this is where most people don't realize that they're wild enough for super-dom and thusly label the superheroes as "crazy fools".
Bite the bullet and get out there! The only way to get over this tremendous hurdle is to close your eyes and jump into that frosty pond!
Here are some tips on how to get started:
- Try going out with a sidekick/partner/team
- Tell yourself that you'll only go out on certain days, perhaps you start out by patrolling every Sunday and Thursday night. You can easily increase that later.
- Many people get nervous or feel anxious. Try taking an antacid and taking a long trip to the bathroom before going out on patrol. How would it seem going into McDonald's while on patrol just because you have to pee? Not very superhero like.
- If you decide to take your cellphone with you, try putting it on vibrate.
- If you think you'll be out for a while, try taking a pack of gum. You can waiver any hunger that comes your way and gum can sometimes be useful.
- Music while on patrol is a big no. You need your ears available. What happens if you're jamming to your iPod and you completely miss hearing a lady screaming for help? If you need something to listen to, get yourself a partner/team/sidekick.
- While on patrol you might find it wise to carry change and a $20 bill. Why? You might need to use a public phone or use the cash. Don't take credit cards.
- Dress appropriately. You might be thinking "duh", but this is an issue. If it's raining out, you might want to have a waterproof cape or jacket or whatever. If it's hot, you might want a light weight uniform. If it's getting nippy outside, you will need an insulated suit and gloves (frozen fingers suck!). The point is, check the weather (look out your window and listen to the weather reports) because if you're sick, you probably won't be out for patrol.
